Thoroughbred Dreams

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Thoroughbred Dreams, out of Bernville, Pennsylvania. Thoroughbred Dreams is a horse rescue that gives race horses another chance. A very wonderful organization with very wonderful horses.

Being able to photograph someone is one thing… being able to photograph someone that I am very close to is another. Besides all the joking around and the fact that it might take forever to get what I actually want, it allows me to capture the person I know and see all the time, that others might not see. This task is very easy if it’s your best friend.

I had the honor of taking photos for her that will be run along side an article of her about her work with animal rights. In addition to her absolute hard work with PETA, she is a vegan, which in itself is an accomplishment. Congratulations on everything Letecia.

Art is definitely a way of expression that I can relate to being a photographer. While attending CDIABU, there was a week that my class needed to have a “photojournalistic” style shoot, which I wasn’t to thrilled about it, but that’s life. So I left DC and went home for two weeks. As soon as I was home, I went into Kutztown and found a tattoo shop. It definitely wasn’t random either…

A few weeks before, on Facebook, I happened to come across a guy that I had mutual friends in common with. Since I had nothing to do with my time, I looked into his profile and photos… he was a tattoo artist.

To be completely honest, I probably have to be one of the pickiest people when it comes to tattoos. There is nothing I enjoy more than talking about a terrible tattoo, but I was impressed.

So, I walked into the shop and just explained everything. Pretty much, hey, want some free photos? He accepted. After that I spent about a week at the shop photographing the process of tattooing and anything else I could.

These are the best photos from that shoot.

James has done all my tattoos since and I plan to keep it that way.

Lucky 13 Tattoo and Piercing is located on Main Street in Kutztown, PA. I had the pleasure of shooting the shop and the co-owner/tattoo artist James.
